DANCE PROGRAMS
PROGRAMS FOR ALL
MUSIC AND MOVEMENT, DANCE READINESS,
BALLET, LYRICAL, MUSICAL THEATRE, TAP, JAZZ, HIP HOP, BALLROOM.
Dance is an art form that knows no barriers and can be enjoyed by anyone.
Dance develops life skills, increasing confidence
and self esteem, expression, communication and self motivation.
Dance improves posture and physical strength.
Dance develops co-ordination and appreciation of music.
Dance provides new and exciting challenges.
Dance is fun!
MUSIC AND MOVEMENT (2 1/2 - 4 yrs.)
A specialized program introducing young children
to the joy of dance through creative movement.
The class involves storytelling through dance.
Simple steps are included whilst exploring movement
through imagery, rhythm, musical interpretation and space.
Emphasis is on enjoyment and learning to follow instructions.
Six week and full year programs are available.
DANCE READINESS (4 – 5 yrs.)
This program is designed to develop good basic movement,
rhythm, musicality and expression.
Props (scarves, wings, leaves etc.) are used to assist in this development.
Steps involve simple jumps, skips and gallops, exercises in co-ordination, relaxation, posture and focus.
The children have the opportunity to work with a piano accompanist.
The child will hear many different pieces of music played at their speed of learning
BALLET
The following ballet programs follow the
Royal Academy of Dance method.
The School prepares a high number of students for examination.
Examinations are optional.
PRE-PRIMARY AND PRIMARY BALLET (5 – 8 yrs)
These programs develop the basic foundation of ballet,
still emphasizing imagination, music and fun.
Many dance steps are now worked into patterns.
Solo dances are included in the Primary level.
Again a pianist is part of the classes.
Confidence is built in a supportive and nurturing environment.
GRADE ONE TO THREE BALLET
Students will continue to develop in their creative and technical ability.
In these grades the student will use the barre,
co-ordinate movements to produce combinations of steps,
learn to respond sensitively to music and be able to perform
with more confidence in front of an audience.
At these levels character dance is introduced requiring
a character skirt and shoes.
GRADE FOUR TO FIVE BALLET
The work becomes more and more challenging.
Students will be able to demonstrate an increased
range of movement in longer and more complex sequences.
They will be encouraged to perform artistically in front of an audience.
Character dance is also continued in these grades.
GRADE SIX TO EIGHT BALLET AND VOCATIONAL SYLLABUS
At this stage, students will have a comprehensive knowledge of dance technique,
interpret music artistically in performance and perform with confidence.
Grade Six to Eight includes ballet,
free movement and character dance and has many beautiful enchainments
and dances.
Vocational levels are designed for those wishing to pursue dance at a professional level.
LYRICAL DANCE
Lyrical Dance is a fusion of ballet and contemporary dance technique.
Known for its expressiveness as the dancer expresses the words of the song.
JAZZ
Fast paced, high energy classes at progressive levels.
The focus in these classes is to learn a strong jazz
technique (including jumps and turns) with the development of style.
TAP
Tap is a wonderful discipline to develop a sense of rhythm and musicality along with great style.
Your feet are the music!
HIP HOP
Hip Hop is a great way to develop a sense of rhythm
while learning the latest street-style moves.
MUSICAL THEATRE
Musical Theatre is a form of theatre combining songs, spoken dialogue and dance.
Our program will include classic jazz dance, tap and some vocal and dialogue from popular musicals.
ADULT DANCE
Classes are designed to give the student a great workout
while teaching basic technique.
No experience is necessary.
PILATES
Mat work classes based on the Pilates Method.
It is a system of exercise that works to improve both structure and function throughout the entire body.
It is gentle, challenging and helps to realign our skeletal structure to improve posture.
Muscles, especially the abdominals and the deep lower back stabilizers, become stronger and more supportive.
Overall flexibility increases and movement becomes freer and easier.
BALLROOM & LATIN
Come out to our classes and learn to dance with your partner.
Ballroom and Latin dance is enjoyed socially and competitively around the world.
Ballroom dances include Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep and Tango
and the Latin dances include Jive, Cha Cha Cha,
